- What happened
- Bangladesh CID arrested two men accused of cloning the website of a Netherlands-based company and using the fake platform to solicit online investments. According to BSS, gang members sent victims links to the cloned site, introduced themselves as employees of the foreign company, and promised quick, high returns. At least one victim invested around Tk 25 lakh before recognising the fraud; police said the group also used Telegram, bank accounts and mobile wallets.
- Pressure pattern
- The scam used a professional-looking cloned website, foreign-company impersonation, and promises of fast high returns to make the investment feel legitimate.
- Pause point
- Before transferring money after receiving a link to an investment platform from a stranger or messaging group.
- How Pausier may have helped
- Pausier could have helped by prompting the victim to pause at the link-and-transfer moment, independently search for the real company, verify the domain, and treat quick-return promises as a high-risk signal.
