Caller posing as an accountant took more than €54,000 from an elderly woman

What happened: Hellenic Police said three people were arrested in Pieria after an elderly woman in Katerini was deceived the same day. An accomplice called her while pretending to be her accountant and persuaded her to hand over more than €54,000. Police stopped the suspects, found the cash hidden in their vehicle, and returned it to the victim. The story shows how authority and a familiar professional role can be used quickly.

Fake accident call claimed an elderly woman’s daughter needed urgent surgery

What happened: In Evia, an elderly woman received a phone call claiming a relative had been involved in a traffic accident. The callers said her daughter needed immediate surgery and persuaded her to pay €10,000. Hellenic Police arrested two alleged gang members the next day in Evia and Attica, seized the money, and returned it to the victim. The case used panic, family fear and medical urgency to rush a payment decision.
