- What happened
- Dutch police said their investigation began after an older woman in Loosdrecht reported bank-helpdesk fraud. She had been phoned by a fake bank employee who claimed her account had been hacked. The caller persuaded her to place her bank card and PIN in an envelope and give it to another supposed bank employee at the door. A neighbour helped her call the bank, but several hundred euros had already been withdrawn.
- Pressure pattern
- Bank impersonation, hacked-account fear, speed, and a doorstep pickup by a supposed helper.
- Pause point
- When the caller told her to put her bank card and PIN in an envelope for collection.
- How Pausier may have helped
- Pausier could have helped by prompting her to pause before handing over the envelope, hang up, and call the bank on a trusted number.
